M.P. Devinder Shory Applauds New Youth Scholarships for Calgary, Edmonton and Lower Mainland Grade 12 Students
Calgary, AB – By his own admission, Savi Kachroo had no idea he would one day be offering $7,500 in annual scholarships to youth in Western Canada. Having moved from India to Canada nine years ago, Kachroo brought with him only his wife, three daughters, a marketing background and a desire to succeed.
“I had always been told that Canada was the REAL land of opportunity for those who work hard and honestly,” said Kachroo. “I was determined to discover the truth for myself.”
Within four years, Kachroo had met his business partner Reshamdeep Mundy in Edmonton. Together as FLT Connections, they opened their first Bell franchise outlet in 2004 in Edmonton-Millwoods.
Now, only five short years later, they recently cut the ribbon on Western Canadian store number thirteen, and FLT Connections today employs over five dozen Western Canadians.
“With the success we found, we knew that we should give back to Canada in a big way,” said Mundy who took his post-secondary training in Edmonton. “Education is absolutely crucial for our Canadian youth to gain the tools necessary for success, so we are providing them with these scholarships.”
Helping to kick off the official announcements in Calgary, Edmonton and Surrey, Calgary Northeast M.P. Devinder Shory offered public support: “Higher learning is vital, and when people like Mr. Kachroo and Mr. Mundy make tangible and ongoing commitments like this to Canada – for our children and for our future... that’s powerful stuff. I like to tell people that whether you were born here, flew here, drove here or sailed here, Canada opens her arms to all who are willing to work hard and to work with honesty. One of our responsibilities in Canada is to give back to Canada – to make it a better country than the one we found. I’m naturally very proud to publicly commend Mr. Kachroo and Mr. Mundy for their generous commitment and for their wonderful example to all of us.”
Kachroo and Mundy said that for September 2010, three $2,500 post-secondary scholarships will be available – one for an outstanding Grade 12 student / community leader / volunteer in Calgary, one for Edmonton and one for the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. This totals $7,500 in scholarships available for Western Canadian post-secondary students starting school in September 2010. The FLT Connections scholarship website launch is scheduled for December 2009, and the first deadline for applications will be in April of 2010.
